Abstract

This paper studies highway vehicular traffic models for predicting call traffic model parameters in a wireless network. The first highway traffic model is characterized by a velocity field while the second is defined in terms of both the velocity field and vehicle density constraints. The models are applied to a one-dimensional highway to determine call traffic model parameters for a wireless network. A simulation model is developed for the two highway traffic models. Numerical results show that time-dependence and mobility of vehicles play important roles in determining the wireless network's performance. The results are useful for wireless network engineering and planning.
