Abstract
An all-solid-state high-voltage pulse generator based on magnetic pulse compression (MPC) and transmission line transformer (TLT) is presented. A closed magnetic core transformer switched with thyristors is used as a fast step up charging source for the primary capacitor of MPC. Three high voltage coaxial 50 Ω cables are connected as a three stages TLT with the input impedance of 17 Ω and the output impedance of 150 Ω. By means of combination of MPC and TLT, this pulse generator can deliver a high-voltage pulse with a duration of 68 ns, amplitude of 90 kV, and rise time of 20 ns on the 150 Ω matched load.
