Abstract

The theory of the transmission of a complex signal along a multimode waveguide is used to consider the existence of a rather large region of spatial coherence for the field near the waveguide axis. A description is given of the optical arrangement and of the results of an experimental investigation of a high-sensitivity fiber-optic interferometer utilizing this property of multimode optical waveguides.
