Abstract

The structure of particles in a mixture of Bi2O3 smoke and WO3 smoke prepared by gas evaporation have been investigated using crystal lattice images obtained by high-resolution electron microscopy. The particles consist of Bi2O3·WO3, 7Bi2O3·WO3 and 7Bi2O3·2WO3, as well as Bi2O3 and WO3 and peritectic mixtures and eutectic mixtures formed by these oxides. The peritectic oxides are precipitated in two parts–one phase rich in the center and the other phase on the surface layer. The eutectic oxices are segregated into two phases in lamella form, with definite mutual lattice orientations. The crystals are formed by coalescence of Bi2O3 and WO3 particles above 400°C, and result in low-temperature phases presented in the phase diagram.
