Abstract

Summary A concept and results of R&D of high power (up to 10 kW and more) industrial CW CO2 lasers are presented. DC-excited fast transverse flow lasers and AC-excited diffusion cooled multi-channel lasers are investigated, developed and manufactured. These lasers have improved beam quality (divergence - less than 0.8 mr), reliability and maintenance. New laser models of modular generator-amplifier scheme are under development. Introduction Modem trends in high power industrial CO2 lasers (HPIL) R&D relate both to technical and applicationdemands on them. New applications of these lasers, fast in particular, deep penetration welding and cutting of thick materials for heavy industries stimulate the development of laser models in wide power range and with reliable beamquality control. Economical and technological requirements for HPIL become veiy stringent and stimulate continuousR&D in optical, gas discharge, power supply, gas dynamics and control systems for these lasers. The Technological Lasers R&D Center NICTL developed and began the manufacturing of the two major types
