Abstract

By overcoming the re-absorption in the orange region of Pr3+:YLF crystal, we realize laser diode pumped widely continuous tunable continuous-wave (CW) orange Pr3+:YLF lasers with Lyot filters for the first time. Through exploring and applying the mostly overlooked transverse electric (TE) mode tunability of the Lyot filter, the tuning range with a fixed filter insertion direction is extended. The total tuning range is from 602.2 to 631.5 nm (∼30 nm). The output power ranging from ∼250 mW up to 4.40 W is achieved. The results show the undeveloped laser potential of Pr3+:YLF in the orange region and highly extend the capability of Pr3+:YLF in practical laser applications.
