Abstract

The modular multiprocessor computer systems operating with high-level languages and determining the perspective of developing high performance computing facilities are discussed. The advantage of the multiprocessor computer systems (MCS) over uniprocessor computer systems, the speed increasing abilities of which have been practically exhausted, is shown. The MCS allows an essential increase in the equipment utilization efficiency and first of all in that of the main memory and external memory. Both MCS and multimachine system construction principles are considered. A multimachine system if far behind the MCS as to the effective using of equipment, obtaining a maximum speed of operation and high reliability. Examples of practically unlimited field of the MCS application are given, as follows : creation of common access computer centers operating in batch-job and time-share modes ; building large control systems, of automation design systems, information systems, systems for processing measurements, etc.
