Abstract

As-received and ball-milled powders are used to prepare Al via high pressure hot pressing. The density of Al varied between 96.19 and 99.70 % of theoretical density. The Al prepared using ball-milled powders exhibited significant improvement in the yield strength (from 74 to 308 MPa) nearly by 416 %, compression strength (203.3–526.5 MPa) and reduction in strain (90.62–46.52 %) when compared to Al processed with as-received powders. The present study determines that ball milling and high pressure hot press is advantageous in improving mechanical properties of Al.
