Abstract

In this paper, a Topas based six head star structured cladding with hexagonal shaped hollow core photonic crystal fiber (PCF) has been proposed for methanol detection in liquid samples in the THz spectrum. The cladding geometry of the proposed sensor is filled with air and the core is filled with different liquid targeted analytes. Comsol v5.3a software has been used for numerical investigation of sensing properties through the finite element method (FEM). The simulation results show the highest sensitivity of 98.4% and negligible confinement loss of 3.34×10<inf>−19</inf> cm<inf>−1</inf> at the operating frequency of 3 THz. Besides, the proposed PCF is also displayed ultra-low material absorption loss of 0.002 cm<inf>−1</inf> at the same frequency. Additionally, fabrication feasibility and comparative performance analysis are also stated here in detail.
