Abstract

PYROLYTIC graphite deposited on a hot target1 has been found to have a structure with highly oriented crystallites2. We have now prepared, similarly, by vapour phase pyrolysis and deposition on a hot target, a boron nitride the structure of which also has a high degree of orientation of its crystallites. Utilizing boron-bearing gases and regulating the parameters of the treatment, we have been able to control the deposit of the pyrolytic boron nitride.
