Abstract

The inoculant ribbons including highly orientated Al3Sc/Al3Zr dual-phase particle were produced by melt spinning and then verified the refining efficacy in Al alloys with different lattice parameters. After adding in various Al alloys melt during solidification, a very small lattice misfit between particle/matrix interfaces can be attributed to the highly orientated Al3Sc/Al3Zr dual-phase structure. The grain size of various Al alloys was significantly decreased by addition of inoculant ribbons with a very small ratio of 0.6% in weight. It is suggested that the highly orientated Al3Sc/Al3Zr dual-phase particle is a promising inoculant for industrial application.
