Abstract

Up-conversion (UC) luminescence properties of Nd:Y2O3transparent ceramics are investigated. It is shown that, under a laser excitation of 808 nm, the samples exhibit significant UC emission. With an increase in the Nd3+ concentration, the intensity of green emission decreases, while the intensity of red emission first increases and then decreases. In particular, both green and red UC emissions are found to be two-photon processes, but with different quantum transition mechanisms. In addition, the dependence of UC emission intensity on the pumping power is studied. Our studies indicate that Nd:Y2O3 transparent ceramics are promising candidates as short-wavelength UC laser material.
