Abstract

A new kind of green, highly selective, economical, effective and envi- ronmentally benign photocatalytic method are illustrated for oxidation of alkenes to epoxide correspondents. Air as a clean and accessible oxidant was employed in the presence of sunlight or visible light irradiation and free-base porphyrin and metalloporphyrin sensitizers. Indeed, all reactions carried out in the absence of solvent at room temperature and the oxidation products are gained in pleasant conversions with high efficiency in a reasonable time. Also cis-stilbene was con- verted selectively to trans-stilbene oxide with high efficiency (up to 36,200) that is the highest reported so far. Free base porphyrin (H2TPP) was better sensitizer than other metallated and non-metallated porphyrins for these reaction conditions.
