Abstract

The paper describes the efficiency of the electromagnetic absorption and mechanical stability of the composites consisting of polyurethane matrix dispersion-armored with corundum grains (Al2O3). Microwave properties and reflection losses were measured in the 1–12 GHz frequency range. This frequency range attracts much attention due to the radar activity. The reflection coefficient was - 35 dB in the whole range. After that, the mechanical properties (ballistic resistance) were determined as a function of the thickness of this composite material. This type of material was found to have the potential to be used as a functional material with additional protective properties. Coexistence of the high-performance electromagnetic protection and well mechanical stability opens up broad perspectives for practical application for combined protection against electromagnetic influences and shock effects.
