Abstract

Anodic fluorination of 4-( p-chlorophenylthio)methyl-1,3-dioxolan-2-one was successfully carried out at platinum plate electrodes in a mixture of acetonitrile (MeCN) and propylene carbonate (PC) (1:1) containing Et 3N · 3HF using an undivided cell to provide the corresponding α-monofluorinated product in quantitative yield and with almost 100% current efficiency. The fluorination was greatly affected by co-solvents in MeCN. The fluorinated product was readily converted into the corresponding fluorinated allyl-alcohol and oxirane in good to moderate yields by treatment with an alkaline solution.
