Abstract
Highly conductive aromatic hydrocarbon radical cation salts can be prepared using novel donors, such as 1,4-bis[2-(1-pyrenyl)ethenyl]-2,5-dimenthylbenzene, BPE-DMB, and 1,4-bis[2-(1-pyrenyl) ethenyl]benzene, BPE-B. Their extended π-electron conjugation was confirmed from molecular structure analysis and electrochemical behaviour. The single crystals of BPE-DMB/IBr2 and BPE-B/IBr2 salts show high conductivity, as high as 60–110 S/cm and 40–100 S/cm respectively at 25°C and the temperature dependencies of their conductivity are similar to metals near room temperature.
