Abstract
The 9th International Family Nursing Conference held from June 2 to June 5, 2009, in Reykjavik, Iceland, was the first time that the International Family Nursing Conference was held in Europe (see Table 1 for a summary of the history of the International Family Nursing Conferences). More than 471 participants from 32 countries enjoyed the unforgettable beauty of Iceland and the opportunity to network with family nursing colleagues. From the keynote, plenaries, preconference workshops, and paper and poster sessions, I was thrilled to learn about the progress of family nursing in Iceland and the world and loved the opportunity to see dear colleagues and make new friends. Pictures from the conference are posted on the conference Web site: http://www.ifnc2009.com/. Several of the plenary addresses offered at the 9th International Family Nursing Conference will be published over the coming months in the Journal of Family Nursing. One of the plenaries about knowledge translation in family nursing (Leahey & Svavarsdottir, 2009) is included in this issue. A book of selected papers from the conference is planned. The distribution of conference participants includes the following:
