Abstract

In this paper, a high-isolated eight-element multi-input multi-output (MIMO) antenna operating in the 3.5 GHz band (3.4-3.6 GHz) is proposed for 5G smartphones. The structure includes four blocks with size of 22X17.25 mm 2 . Each block has two tightly-arranged PIFA elements. By applying in-phase feeding and out-of-phase feeding at the two ports of the elements, the common and differential modes of the block can be excited. The two modes provide pattern diversity, thus high port isolation is achieved. The simulated results show that the return loss is greater than 6 dB and the port isolation is larger than 15 dB across the desired operation bandwidth. The desirable antenna efficiency is above 58%.
