Abstract

Numerical results are obtained for exact and approximate solutions for the scatter of a plane wave from sinusoidal and doubly periodic ellipsoidal surfaces with a Dirichlet boundary condition. The farfield is obtained as an exact solution to the Helmholtz‐Kirchhoff integral, and the surface field is obtained as an exact solution to Fredholm integral equations of the first and second kinds and as an approximate solution to the Fredholm integral equation of the first kind. Numerical calculations are performed to determine the accuracy of approximate techniques, the effects of geometric parameters and surface roughness type on the scattered field, and the dependence of the surface field on the type of Fredholm integral equation.
