Abstract

Higher modes of electron plasma waves and electron bursts are observed for three different types of exciters (probe, ring and target). It is found that a probe excites the higher modes most easily. In the nonlinear experiments reported previously, the exciting voltage to a probe is often large enough to generate electron bursts. Therefore, it is important to take account of the higher modes of electron plasma waves and electron waves in interpreting experimental data.
