Abstract
A higher-order plane stress stiffness matrix is developed to overcome some of the deficiencies at the standard constant stress triangle. The stiffness matrix is derived from polynomial displacement functions and includes in-plane nodal rotations as additional degrees of freedom. Numerical examples are included. Refined stress patterns of greater accuracy are obtained.
