Abstract

In the present investigation the anharmonic elastic properties of NaCl, NaBr, NaI and NaF ionic crystals have been analysed by determining their six third order and eleven fourth order elastic constants. An interionic force model based on long-range and short-range crystal potentials has been considered for the evaluation of higher order elastic constants and the pressure derivatives of second order and third order elastic constant. Instead of traditional form of BM potential a different form of overlap short-range potential has been taken into account. The results achieved in the present study are compared with the experimental data and also with those results obtained by previous workers.
