Abstract

Sunflower seed meal (SSM) samples were analysed for proximate composition and then incorporated in broiler chick diets at increasing levels up to 30%. No significant differences were observed in body weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion efficiency, and pancreas and liver relative weight. Increasing the level of SSM in the diet decreased nitrogen ( P < 0.01) and energy ( P < 0.05) retention as a percentage of intake. Growth data indicated that SSM can be used in broiler chick diets up to 30% with no adverse effect on growth. The high fibre content of SSM had no significant effect on nutrient intake.
