Abstract

Polarized excitation spectra of matrix-isolated phenanthrene, carbazole and fluorene are measured up to excitation energies of about 70000 cm−1 using synchrotron radiation. The measurements render symmetry assignments for most of the experimentally observed transitions. For the low energy part of the excitation spectra, up to energies about 45000 cm−1, the results are in complete agreement with earlier investigations. The results are compared with the theoretical predictions obtained from CNDO/S-SDCI calculations.
