Abstract
The ultraviolet absorption of ReF 6 comprises a broad ( δ − = 3760 cm −1) structureless band centered at 47 687 cm −1 and two structured systems originating at 49 322 and 56 404 cm −1. The first is interpreted as a charge transfer transition. The other two are interpreted as members of a Rydberg series converging on an ionization potential of 7.99 eV. The molecule, in the Rydberg states, is a slightly expanded octahedron
