Abstract
The presented article contains a collection of reflections on the possibility of shaping the professional identity of special educators during university studies. Professional identity is shown as an important and necessary category in the description of a special educator. It can be considered as a response to the threats and challenges associated with this profession, and at the same time as the beginning of a professional and personal development project. It can also unite a given professional group, be a professional and creating factor, conducive to the development of the profession, expanding its achievements both in terms of theory and professional practice. Higher education is an excellent opportunity to shape the professional identity of future special educators. This article is an invitation, a trigger to critical reflection on the activities undertaken as part of studies, both by students – future special educators – and by academic teachers working with them.
