Abstract
We study a generalized box diagram where the Feynman propagators in the t-channel are replaced by Veneziano amplitudes. It is shown that the high-energy limit depends on the direction in which s tends to infinity in the complex plane. Moreover an unexpected dependence on the intercept of the input trajectory is obtained. Therefore, the usual procedure to derive in off-mass-shell theories the high-energy behaviour and the singularity structure in the j-plane from the asymptotic properties at s → −∞ is not justified in general.
