Abstract

The nonuniform galactic disk model, which we previously proposed to explain the unexpectedly large flux of interstellar antiprotons, is also able to account in a natural way for the spectral shape variation of high-energy cosmic-ray electrons. A comparison of the model prediction with the measured electron data suggests that only about 5% of the observed protons are of local origin and that the electron intensity inside a spiral arm is much lower than that outside it. The model further predicts that the electron energy spectrum should flatten again at very high energies.
