Abstract
In this study, a surface grinding machine with a linear motor driven table system was developed and its performance tests were conducted to evaluate the developed surface grinding machine. In the machine performance tests, vibration due to table movement, positioning error of the table, table elevation and rise of coil temperature were measured to investigate the influence on the grinding performance. In the grinding tests, surface roughness, grinding force, grinding temperature and wheel radial wear at constant material removal rate with different combinations of the workpiece speed and the depth of cut were measured. The experimental results proved that the developed surface grinding machine was able to achieve high efficiency grinding.
