Abstract

We use a general theory of interaction of a relativistic electron beam (REB) with a field of modes E/sub oi/ of an irregular waveguide. On the basis of this theory we receive the one-dimensional self-consistent nonlinear equations of relativistic Cherenkov oscillators: reflecting travelling wave tubes (RTWT) and backward-wave oscillators (BWO). Then by partial optimization of parameters and profiles of regular or irregular corrugated waveguides the high-efficiency variants of oscillators are found for /spl lambda/=3cm.
