Abstract

The final system performance of a magnetic medium is dependent on a complex interaction of a number of parameters. Because of these interactions using an experimental approach to study the effects on system performance by varying a single parameter is almost impossible. This paper proposes the use of a theoretical investigation to quantify the importance of various parameters of the medium and the hardware for magnetic recording. The calculations are performed by means of a newly developed theory with special emphasis on high-density media.
