Abstract

The paper presents the results of development of high-voltage switching device that depends on a low pressure discharge with a cold cathode. The emergence of this switch was associated with the necessity to increase the commutation current in classical hydrogen thyratron with a hot cathode, and the design of the new switch can be considered in some respects as an advancement of thyratron design. On the other hand, the switch described is a further development of the devices that are based on low-pressure hollow-cathode discharge.
