Abstract

AbstractIn this paper, by improving the existing morphological shape decomposition method, we will propose a morphological shape decomposition which uses high‐accuracy circle‐structuring elements and is capable of completely describing the original shape. Moreover, the amount of calculation time for shape decomposition is determined, and it is found that both methods require the same calculation time O(M4/3) (M2 is the area of the object figure). Furthermore, from the viewpoints of shape description error rate and description data quantity, the proposed method is confirmed to be superior to the existing method in the experiments on shape decomposition and restoration. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
