Abstract
Abstract A type of optical filter, the phase grating filter (PGF), which uses cascaded rectangular phase gratings or a single echelon grating as a wavelength selector, is proposed and analysed. The PGF has similar properties to conventional the Lyot birefringent filter but higher light transmittance thanks to elimination of the use of any polarizer.
