Abstract

We investigated the thermoelectric properties of n-type Cd-doped PbTeCdx alloys (x=0, 0.01, 0.02, 0.04) prepared by melt spinning combined with rapid induction hot pressing. Transmission electron microscopy revealed rhombo-cubo-octahedron shape precipitates (~5nm) in PbTeCd0.02 sample. The two-dimensional electron gas that existed on the interface of precipitates resulted in an increase in power factor. The peak figure of merit reached 1.5 at 723K as well as a high average figure of merit of 0.93 in the temperature range from 298 to 673K.
