Abstract

In this paper, AlN-YAG: Ce composite phosphor ceramics with high thermal conductivity was prepared by accompanying YAG: Ce phosphor with an AlN matrix. The phosphor ceramics was densified at 1700 °C for 3 h, and YAG: Ce phosphor particles were uniformly dispersed in the AlN matrix without any chemical reaction and impure phases around the contact interfaces. The thermal conductivity of the sample with 10 wt. % YAG: Ce phosphor was as high as 68.8 W m−1 K−1. As a result, the saturation power density is up to 39.6 W mm−2 with a luminous emittance of 1516 lm mm−2, showing excellent resistance to high flux density photon irradiation. This work presents a method to enhance the thermal conductivity of phosphor ceramics for high power laser lighting.
