Abstract

It is shown that an effective attraction arises between electrons with momenta near saddle Van Hove points in the two-dimensional repulsive Hubbard model. The formula for T c is obtained and the type of Cooper pairing near T c is determined which may be called “the superposition of pairings with odd angular momenta” (approximately this is p-pairing). The problem of competition between superconductivity and ferromagnetism is discussed.
