Abstract
The fabrication of thick superconducting films of the Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O system on alumina substrate is reported. The investigation shows a strong dependence of the superconducting properties on annealing conditions. An optimal temperature-time combination is required to obtain superconduction in the film, which largely depends on the ambient to which the film is subjected for heat treatment. The best results the authors could achieve are Tc (onset)=90 K and Tc (zero) at 75 K in thick films ( approximately 50 mu m). Resistance-temperature (R-T) characteristics, SEM surface topography and elemental composition of the superconducting films are described.
