Abstract
This paper proposes a simple high-temperature sensor, which is fabricated by splicing a section of silica capillary tube (SCT) between two conventional single mode fibers (SMF). The resonance dips in the transmission spectrum resulting from the resonant reflection in SCT shift to red when temperature rises because of the positive thermo-optical coefficient of fused silica. In the temperature range from 200°C to at least 850°C, the sensor with an SCT length of about 25,012.8 μ m obtained a temperature sensitivity of 28.97 pm/°C , which is close to theory analysis, 31.49 pm/°C . It can have actual application in high-temperature sensing due to its characteristics of good repeatability, great linearity, simple structure, and low cost.
