Abstract

Single crystals of four uranates, Sr3UO6 and Ba2 MUO6 (M = Cu, Ni, Zn), were grown out of reactive carbonate melts. The compounds crystallize in the perovskite structure type as determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Ba2ZnUO6 and Ba2NiUO6 crystallize in the cubic double perovskite structure, the Cu analog is tetragonal and the Sr3UO6 compound is monoclinic. The crystal growth conditions and single crystal structures of these complex uranium-containing double perovskites are reported.
