Abstract

Abstract A review is given of certain high temperature corrosion problems involved in the reduction of Canadian-mined nickel copper ores. Emphasis is placed on the proper selection of materials for various pieces of mining and processing equipment. Among the pieces of equipment discussed are roasters (superimposed on reverberatory furnaces), converters, lute caps, piping, drag line conveyors, sinter machines and hot crusher rolls. Materials of construction tested include cast iron, cast 28 chromium-3 nickel, 25 chromium-12 nickel, ductile iron, 13 chromium-0 nickel, 26 chromium-46 nickel-5 tungsten, and Types 431 and 410 stainless steels. 8.10.3
