Abstract
We have been concerned to hear reports of high surface temperatures on certain diagnostic ultrasound probes (Duck et al, 1989). It was not clear whether these temperatures resulted from faulty equipment or faulty design. Because of the sensitivity of vaginal tissue, we therefore undertook an evaluation of seven currently available systems to clarify these issues.
