Abstract

Abstract Single-phase flow past a circular cylinder strongly correlates to Reynolds number, where the wake behind the cylinder becomes unstable and more turbulent as the Reynolds number increases [1]. In two-phase bubbly flow, the Reynolds number alone cannot describe the non-uniform distribution of void fraction that occurs in the wakes of circular cylinders [2,3]. This experimental investigation visualized bubble behavior in wakes generated from an upward liquid-gas flow around a cylinder. It focused on the bubble trapping phenomenon where bubbles were held in the wakes momentarily before flowing downstream.
