Abstract

The performance of an Elman recurrent network-based relay in determining the fault direction on a power transmission line on fault data recorded in the field is described in this paper. The network uses samples of voltage and current signals to learn the hidden relationship existing in the input patterns. Studies show that the proposed network is able to identify the fault direction correctly and rapidly. Results obtained indicate that the proposed network is robust, fast and accurate.
