Abstract
The authors describe the high-speed operation of an electroabsorption modulator with travelling-wave electrodes. The modulator exhibited good performance over a broad bandwidth in 10 and 30 Gbit/s transmission experiments. The polarisation-insensitive electroabsorption modulator required a low switching voltage of /spl sim/1.6 V/sub p-p/.
