Abstract
The magnetic field response of a spin valve having a perpendicularly magnetized free layer (FL) and an in-plane-magnetized reference layer (RL) under a DC bias current was studied theoretically. Above a certain bias current value, the magnetization of the FL points in the equilibrium direction in the film plane. If the sign of the applied field is changed, the magnetization moves to another equilibrium direction that is symmetric with respect to the axis parallel to the magnetization of the RL. We found that this field response is rapid because the spin-transfer torque enhances the damping.
