Abstract

Abstract The possibility of supersonic flight in turbojet-powered aircraft is shown, and the resulting thrust requirements for the engine are estimated. The performance requirements of a turbojet installation are considered from the point of view of an aerodynamicist. Afterburning, inlet-pressure recovery and drag, matching of inlet size and engine, and the effect of exit and cooling losses are considered. Speed stability and jet problems are discussed briefly.
