Abstract
A tunable optoelectronic oscillator generating a microwave output signal at 1 GHz with an extremely low phase noise is presented. The oscillator was also operated as a pulse generator, making use of the inherent nonlinearity of an intracavity electro-optic modulator. Pulses of 1-2 ns in duration at repetition rates of 20-200 MHz were generated.
