Abstract

Porphyrins possessed excellent near-infrared fluorescence emission in good solution but the strong aggregation-caused quenching effect in aggregated state, limiting their application in aqueous media and solid state. In this work, a novel tetraphenylethene-porphyrin (TPE-P) bridged with soft spacers was synthesized in reasonable yield. TPE-P exhibited strong aggregation-induced emission based on the good intramolecular fluorescence energy transfer from tetraphenylethene units to porphyrin moiety. TPE-P showed high near-infrared fluorescence emission in both solution and solid state. The fluorescence quantum yield of TPE-P in solid state attained as high as 0.14. The Stokes shift of TPE-P for fluorescence emission was as large as 410 nm. TPE-P also displayed excellent fluorescence bio-imaging behavior for living cells.
