Abstract

Abstract A high sensitivity temperature and magnetic sensor based on the micro-structured optical fiber (MOF) is proposed. According to the coupled-mode theory, by filling magnetic fluid and liquid ethanol in some air holes of the micro-structured fiber, the resonant wavelength (λR) is calculated. The drift of λR which reflects the changes in magnetic fields and temperatures is obtained. The results show that the sensor possesses high magnetic field and temperature sensitivity, which can reach 18.37 nm/Oe and 113.1 nm/°C respectively under certain temperature and magnetic field conditions. It provides some theoretical and technical support for the research of temperature and magnetic field precision sensor, to develop new research methods and ideas for fiber optic sensors, and to provide broader application prospects for devices based on micro-structured optical fiber.
